Mat Hill was born in Birmingham, UK, which as the UK's second city, has a history of entertainment including a thriving repertory theater that has launched hundreds of actors, and the Royal Ballet.

From an early age he was involved in amateur stage performances, as an actor, a narrator, a writer and director. In his early twenties he had the opportunity to work as Production Staff and Workshop Leader with an arts-based charity, Full Potential Arts, whose mandate was to improve disenfranchised communities' access to and the ability to produce their own art and entertainment projects.

It was also around this time that he got his first experience of major behind-the-scenes production, working as a scenic artist for PW Productions, a major theatre, movie and rock concert backdrop, prop and scene designer based in London and Birmingham, working on projects like Janet Jackson and Prince's stage shows.

He then co-managed a multimedia restaurant venue, Vegatropolis Catering, when he was responsible for hosting movie clubs, producing video DJing performances, and providing backdrops, rigging, lighting, security etc for major music acts such as Underworld and Orbital in a variety of venues. He also wrote, co-starred in, directed and choreographed a short musical play to some critical acclaim.

He moved to Japan in 1999, where he took the common route of becoming an English teacher. He was never far from his entertainment ambitions however, and worked in Shibuya, adding to his experience in the field by coaching news anchors, TV producers, and actors. He also had a part in a play in Japanese, and worked as a speech-writer, editor and coach for various government branches, and company, city and prefectural speech contests.

He also coached presentation skills, narration and pronunciation for NHK among others, did some script editing for Nikkatsu Studios/Warner Brothers and became a dialect and pronunciation curriculum manager at a major pronunciation school with many clients in the acting profession.

He has a distinctive and rich voice. Like many who started in theatre, he has a natural sense of delivery and timing that can give him great poise or the opposite if necessary! He is now looking to consolidate his experience with more dialog coaching and acting on screen himself.

He is also very active in various Martial Arts, and has taught several, including for action acting.
